I have a 2006 chevy aveo that the vent wont blow heat when the car is idle but when driving I get good heat. You mentioned to someone else about checking the hoses and flushing the heater core. Where would I look facing the engine?

Well, the hoses come straight out of the radiator at the front of the car. The heater core is a little more difficult to get to because it will be at the back of the engine, but you may just be low on coolant. Try checking your coolant tank first. Before doing that, check to make sure the coolant is full. Also, make sure the engine is running at a normal operating temp.

This guide will help fix it

Next, with the engine running, hot, and the heater on, check to make sure both heater core hoses are hot. Facing the front of the vehicle, you will see them going to the firewall. If both are hot, then the problem isn't a plugged heater core. In this case, check to make sure the blend door is fully opening.

Smoke started coming from the engine area and after the car cooled off for a few hours my heater isn't working and my temperature gage goes from C to H pretty fast. What could be the problem?

Low coolant from a leak, which caused the smoking. Do not overheat it as you may damage the motor

Check the radiator fan. Mine went out shortly after purchasing my car and I ended up replacing the fan and air conditioning system when the sensor in the fan melted a bunch of wires. No warning lights came on except the temp gauge shot up the red line

Heater problem
2005 Chevy Aveo 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 61k miles

I have a 2005 Chevey Aveo that the heater works fine when driving at speed, but when I slow for a traffic like or stop and just idle for any reason, the air begins to turn cold. The blower fan works fine, and this happens when the heat switch is any any position, (vent, vent-floor, floor-windsheild, windsheild only, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill

Try warming the Vehicle, then carefully feel the heater hoses, are they both hot? If one is cooler than the other, You need to flush the core, or a replacement job on the heater core. Also if the system has a heat control valve on the heater hose, make sure it is working!
Check your thermostat too.

There are a few possibilities. My first instinct is that the thermostat is stuck open. However, before replacing it go through a few steps to eliminate other possibilities to ensure you don't waste your time or money.
Has your anti-freeze been serviced recently? I know Chevy uses the Pink long term anti-freeze, but it is something to eliminate because air can get trapped in the system when the anti-freeze gets changed or gets replaced or topped of as part of another service. If you had any repairs done recently, that may be the case. Sounds like you have checked it, but just want to make sure. As you near the service life of the GM anti-freeze, make sure that you replace it because it deteriorates very quickly after its recommended change interval. I think it is 100,000 miles but time is the really critical factor.
As it gets older it tends to cause issues such as corrosion on cooling system components that will cause issues like a thermostat that is stuck open.
So, if the blower motor works and the mode control works, e.G. Changing from feet to face works and blows through the correct vents, replacing the thermostat should not cost much and is not hard to do.
You can find links on this site to help you through the repair or to help you find a reputable repair shop near you.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.

One thing that happens is the heater will not blow hot if the coolant level is low. Figured this out on my wife's aveo.
