Van will not crank when cold unless we use starting fluid. But after it warms up it will crank until is gets cold again.

If service engine light is on, have the codes read Autozone will read them for free, post all code here. Next, if no service engine light, there are a few parts that can cause hard starting, they include, fuel pump(low pressure) Idle air control(Bypass not working) Engine coolant temp sensor(choke system). And EGR(stuck partially open). And the biggest cause, worn spark plugs and bad plug wires. Remove plugs, and check condition and GAP! Also clogged fuel filter, less likley since it runs OK when you do get it going.

The actual code would help more, but look into the ECT and changing the thermostat.

ECT=Engine coolant temperature sensor, about twenty dollars. Located in the drivers side head between either the first two cylinders, or last two. Remove it with a cold engine, screw the new one in quickly and you wont lose too much coolant.
