Car shut off while driving

Hi there, I have the car listed above two door hatchback. Today I was driving and it just stopped completely in the middle of the road. When I turned the key it made a hollow popping sound but did not start at all. I ended up pushing it off the road and leaving it there, my friend and my ex cannot get it to start nor can they figure out what is wrong with it. Any ideas please?

The hollow popping noise gives us a clue that the timing chain has let go not running the camshafts. But to be sure please make a video with your phone and upload it here in your response. Also, can you do a quick compression test this will let us know as well.
