My check engine light came on about a week ago and today I was driving to town and my car stats hiccuping like it is not getting enough gas or power. When slowing down or at a complete stop it will shut off and in park. It will act like it wants to shut off a few times before it actual does. I was wondering if it could be the alternator or spark plugs or something else.

Hello, I am Danny.

Having the Check Engine Light on means there is a fault code stored in your car's computer. Having the code checked is a great way to star diagnosis of your car's problem. If you do not have access to a code reader/scanner your local auto part stores (Auto zone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's) will check for free. If you get back to us with the code number(s) we will be happy to help. I have attached a tutorial showing what is involved with checking codes. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
