Hey buzzsaw,
yeah I found the fuse panels and cleaned the fuses. None of them were bad either. So I suppose the computer is bad because the theft system, radio, AC, fuel, temp ect dont work. The radio comes on sometimes even with the key out of the ign lol. It also must have a short because its draining the battery overnight. It seems like there are some major electrical probs with this car. Any advice. How much would it cost to overhaul the electrical system or install new computer. Im willing to fix it but I really dont want to spend alot more considering the milage on it. I would be lucky to get 2500-3000 for it even with it fixed :)

I am getting the message start disabled due to theft system. One wire on key cylinder was cut and reconnected. Info
on display says to remove key and wait 3 mins, still no start condition. Locksmith
says to remove resistor from key and solder purple and white wire to one side and black and wht to other side. Will this work or howq do I find out what resistor out of 15 possible I have.

That will work. Put ohm meter across the pellet and read resistance. If the pellet is no good then unfortunately you will have to use process of elimination to determine proper resistance, and wait 4 minutes between tries. There is no way to determine the resistor your car has.

There is no owner override. The VATS system on your car has about fifteen different possibilities of key values. You could measure the resistance of the key pellet minus your fingers (the body has continuity) and get a resistor that way, it still needs installed. You could also get a new cylinder and VATS key, have the wires put in the connector and tuck that under the dash. Otherwise, you need the ignition lock cylinder and keys replaced. The reason for the key replacement, is the new cylinder will have a different cut than the one you are replacing.

Please I need your help. I would like you to send me those instructions and the part number for the resister. If you possibly can. I would deeply appreciate it. I bought my car six months ago. Drove it one week and its been parked in my driveway ever since. After a new transmission, starter, battery, brain, and a fly wheel. I finally got to drive it today. I got home parked her now it will not start up due to this irritating.
Thank you

I replaced the battery on my cadi because it did not want to start hoping that was the problem. Since I installed the new battery I get an error message on control panel which says ( starting disabled due to theft system) I did exactly as instructed in manual which was to clean key, wait 3 minutes and try and restart, still nothing. I have followed many different suggestions including disconnecting the battery, unlocking both doors then starting, waiting 10 minutes with key in ignition partially turned over, still nothing. I don't have the money to take it to the dealers, if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, that was a relief, I got a great set of instructions and images of wiring inside the steering column and bought a $2.00 resistor from radio shack and voila it started!
If anyone has this problem and wants to try this solution, I still have the instructions.

Please email me the information, that was successful, in them repairing their Cadillac? Where is the resistor located.

If you have another key try that because the way you tried to reset it isn't correct but the thing is so old I forgot how to do it, this may be the diode type so try another key first. If you go to a place that installs anti theft systems they can probably help you out to get it running again.

I have tried both sets of keys. I don't have the money to take it to a car alarm place. I was out of work for 6 months and am barely working part time now. Why would Cadillac make this such I difficult issue that I have to take it somewhere to fix it? I'm very frustrated. Can you please tell me who can I talk to that would remember how to reset the factory security system so that I can get my car running again?
