Hi I have a question. My car will not stay running sometime unless my foot is on the gas then it is fine. Sometimes if I stop at a stop sign or light and brake, then it dies, but if I press the gas and break at the same time when I am stopped, it is fine. I was wondering if you could possibly tell me what is wrong? I was thinking the transmission, but I am not so sure. I think it would have died already if it was. It has been acting funny for about 2 months now.

Hi:
There could be many things causing this. Chances are it's the idle air control valve (IAC) or the throttle position sensor (TPS). What I recommend it to take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. If codes exist, it will point us in the right direction to fix the problem. Also, most stores will scan it for free so there will be no out of pocket spending.

I feel it's one of the things I listed, but without scanning, I would be guessing.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
