Our dash board break light has suddenly started to come on and more and more is staying on. The brakes themselves seem to be operating just fine when I drive the car. However, I looked at the manual and it said that one of our 2 braking systems has failed. Can you 1. Provide more insight into what that means? 2. Estimate about how much I should expect to pay for repairs? 3. How safe it is to continue driving until I can get it repaired?

Open your hood, and check the fluid level on your master cylinder. I can almost promise you that it is lower than the minimum level. Just fill it up with fresh brake fluid to the appropriate level.

While you are at it, when was the last time the front brake pads replaced. You may want to have someone check your brake pads. They may be getting thin, one reason why your brake fluid level is lower than minimum. Expect to pay about $3 for a bottle of brake fluid. Labor? Price less. If you do it yourself. Only takes a minute to open the reservoir cap, fill it and install the cap back on. I would not feel safe to drive your vehicle until you get that taken care of.
