The abs light came on while driving on completely dry pavement and the speedometer stopped working. After stopping the car for about 2 hours when it was restarted it worked well until about 60 miles down the road and it quit again. It did not begin to work again. The abs light and the traction light are on and the speedometer doesn't work.

Most likely reason for this to occur is the ASC control module has failed and will require replacement. BMW calls it a rebuild kit and it will require coding for the application.

I had the same problem. The problem later expanded to mess up the entire electrical system so I couldn't operate the car. The first time I had breaks repaired and a sensor in the steering wheel replaced. That worked for a week or two. Next a mechanic replaced all the sensors in the 4 wheels but that didn't work. Next the dealer replaced the central computer module for $1,000 and that worked. A year later the lights are back on and the speedometer doesn't work.

Like I said, the ASC/DSC rebuild kit should solve the problem. BMW is accountable for the failure of electronic modules and should fix it for Peter 007 if the warranty period has not expired.

I have a 2000 BMW 528i exactly same thing happened to me. Abs brake asc speedometer amount of gas I have, all lights came on same day I never got it fixed it happened about a year and 6months ago now my car won't start a mechanic told me it was the sensor and nothing major so no need for quick repair. I hope one problem don't have anything to do with the other.

Vehicle speed is determined by the input from the wheel speed sensors to the DSC or the ASC unit(model year dependent) and it then travels to the instrument cluster as a digital signal. The DSC/ASC module is attached to the ABS pump assembly.
