Hi fellow Audi motorists,

Hope someone can confirm (or deny) my mechanic's opinion that, despite the manufauturer's view that it's good for 120,000 miles, the 1999 Audi A6's Timing Belt/Fan Belt has a tendency to go around the 70 - 75,000 mile mark. He reckons I should have it replaced now at 69,000 miles rather than risk having it go in traffic.

That is a good question. Personally I would replace before the 120,000 mark. Makes me nervous knowing a rubber belt with that kind of time on it is running my engine. Who knows, maybe he has seen a few premature failures and is trying to keep you from being one of them

Please remember that this is only an opinion. Seems awful early to be yanking it out, however, if he is in there working on something else in the area, ie head work, water pump, etc, then yes do it at the same time. But if that is his mission to just replace the belt, I would tell him no. Opinion only!
