HOW DO YOU REPLACE A DRIVE BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY.SERPENTINE BELT CAME

1996 Audi A6 • 115,000 miles

Serpentine belt came off. Looking at the diagram for putting the belt back on I am missing the tensioner. It must have broke off.

Did bolt break and still inbedded in block? Or is part of tensioner assembly still there? Unbolt and replace it.

Have a look at the attached image... and this PDF:

I assume you have a 2.8 V6

The tensioner is secured to the engine via bolt #11 (8mm allen).

On the back of the tensioner is a "locating dimple" which allows
for correct placement of the tensioner.

Actually, it might even be a 10mm allen head bolt. It's been a
while since I had to remove one.
