Engine Performance problem
2002 Audi A4 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Manual 125k miles

hello I have a audi a4 2002 1.8t, when it is cold outside around o degrees F or colder at exatcly 1100 rpm the car studders and is not smooth, above or below 1100 it is fine and only in very cold weather fortunately going maybe 5 minutes the problem is completely gone and fine, even if I stop for 2 hours and start the car again it is fine. I removed the maf sensor and cleaned it carefully not touching anything, I used electrical contact cleaner, did not help. I have vag com and have no codes. Maybe I need a new maf sensor, next time it happens I will disconnect the maf sensor and see what happens.
any ideas,

thanks.

p.S.
i bought a mityvac model 6835 and love this tool, hook it up to your shop air and you can bleed anything, I use to clean out my power steering pump to prime and bleed my radiator, works like charm and of course to bleed my brakes, saves me big money by doing the job myself very usefull.

I have the same issue, but my A4 is the V6 Quattro. I dont know how long you've had your A4 but my problem was a lot worse in warm weather. After a long drive time it will start to misfire at accleration. I have already redone all the vac lines, all coils, all plugs, filters and even took it to Audi. They told me it was acting like this because I have aftermarket coils installed. $250 later, same problem, now they say it could be the plugs.

I also was thinking of changing the maf sensor but between audi and shotgun repairing, I'm tired of wasting $.

My MIL just continues to say multiple cyclinder misfire.
With the MAF unpluged you get a clear code saying the MAF sensor has malfunctioned. I also tried to clean it.

After sorting through all the replys on this thread, I started talking to a new mechanic in my garage. I dont know why I never thought of it but he suggested the fuel pressure regulator. He explained he just repaired a truck with a bad regulator and the engine was fouling out plugs and throwing missfire codes. Im going to change it and let you know, maybe this could be your problem also.
