1997 z24 engine knocking

I bought a 1997 z24 not even one year ago. It has 158,000km on it and it has recently started knocking. I have been told a couple of theories. One being it has something to do with a piston and I need to rebuild my engine or that it could be something in the top end. The knocking doesnt go away, only when the clutch is in. It doesn't get worse or better even if it is warm or cold out. Any ideas as to what the problem could be! Thanks

Depending on the speed of the noise, sounds like the bottom end is going away. By pushing in the clutch, you are shoving the crankshaft forward in the engine, thus stopping the noise, sounds like excesive end-play in the crank. GN did have piston problems, but they would change or go away with temperature changes.

Hi I made a mistake with my question last time. My engine does NOT knock when the engine is cold but once the engine is up to operating temperature the knocking starts. Does this mean a possible piston problem then? Thanks

It seems to knock with the speed of idle. When I accelerate it gets faster, when I slow down it slows.
