1986 VW Golf 4cyl. Basic engine 66,000+milage engine stalls

I have a 1986 VW Golf that stalls after driving at various times and distances.I noticed this after I looked at my gas guage that showed I was at the red sone(time to add gas).I filled the tank with gas and I still have this problem. Could this be caused by water & sediment in the fuel filter(would a filter change solve this problem), or could this be caused by something else?Please help! P.S, everything else seems to be O.K THANK YOU!

U might need to change spark plugs and maybe fuel injecters I would recomend techtonics tuning the could tell u everying call 411 and askthen for the number its in sheridan OR and it might be your fuel filter
