My air conditioner worked great and then out of nowhere, one day a couple weeks ago all of a sudden it started blowing only hot air. No warning of this at all. Cold air has not worked since. So, I’ve changed every fuse and relay related to the A/C system- nope not that. I tried adding Freon thinking it must be low or out, but it turns out that my A/C Freon was overcharged, so I released some pressure and got it back down the green level on the gauge. Thought this would be the problem solver - but nope. So, then, a mechanic told me I should consider the compressor might have gone bad, which I really do not think it’s the compressor, because this was not an overtime sort of issue. It didn’t ever work, then not work, then work again, and it also is still blowing strong air - it’s just hot air only.
So then, finally I am come to the conclusion that it is my blend door actuator (under the passenger side dash) because of a few different factors, one being that since I’ve had this vehicle, there’s been a random sporadic quiet light clicking/ticking sound every so often sounding like it comes from the inside of my glove box on the dash. Which, I’ve read many people with my same vehicle have reported the same problem. Needing to replace the blend door actuator. Well, I’ve got my car half ripped apart after buying the replacement BDA (blend door actuator), thinking that I have little hands I should be able to reach up and unscrew this thing. Nope. I don’t know how anyone has ever done this without removing the dash- because I am not about to.
I would really like some tips and guidance/instructions on this job and also for help with removing the dash enough on the passenger side to reach the BDA to even be able to replace it. Thank you and hopefully looking forward to your quick response time! God bless.

Hi,

As far as the actuator, there are two. One for the driver's side and one for the passenger's side. Did you lose A/C on both at the same time? That would be odd for both to fail. Also, do you have automatic or manual climate control?

When you have the A/C turned on and the engine running, do you hear the compressor clutch engage (a click)?

As far as the procedure, you should be able to get it by just removing the instrument panel compartment. I attached the directions below.

Let me know.

Joe
