Hilux 4runner DC 4x2 Clutch problem: Had sticky gearshift, clutch was replaced by Toyota dealership at first service under service contract (replaced with clutch of a different design), problem improved somewhat, but not resolved. Gearbox removed again by dealership after 30000km. The clutch friction plate has two smallish areas (few square cm's) on the friction surface, that is NOT worn (never made contact with the flywheel) Could this contribute to the shift problem, and does this indicate a component problem or possibly as a result from some other cause? I don't do 4x4 or heavy stuff, but tow a caravan from time to time.

Could be more of an out of round flywheel. Did they resurface the fylwheel?
Also. Did you change the fluid in the gear box? This could contribute to the shifter linkage.

Not sure whether the flywheel was resurfaced. Gearbox synchros are being replaced and filled with synthetic oil. Apart from the possible flywheel problem, what about defects of the friction plat and/or pressure plate?

If there was only a small portion of the flywheel untouched, it may just be a low spot on the flywheel or a pressure plate spring failure. That would have to be determined by the tech working on the car.
