Yesterday a car owner called and drove me to a garage where the car was parked. On getting there, battery from is Lexus was pulled out and used for my testing in his car.

The car that is faulty is listed above. The check engine codes I noticed when I connected my scan tool were: P2014, P0113, and P2185. But when I checked for modules, the codes were: P0190, P0798, P0864 and P0841 were added previous three codes I highlighted earlier.

Before long, about 7 minutes or less during my scan I wanted to crank the engine over to check the live data and the operation of the car unfortunately the battery went low.

Hence, I couldn't carry out more test. In an interview of the car owner about what he used to notice the symptoms in the car and what was replaced in the car in an attempt to solve the problem. He highlighted that it happened on is way, when the car was on motion and suddenly went off. He allowed the car to cool down for some time. When he tried starting it again it started and moved for some distance and stalled out again.

He invited an electrician to check the cause and fix the problem. The fuel pump was replaced and an actuator as he said but that he can't recall the name at the moment. The car was then driven to a garage where I meet it. Since then, they've been trying to fix the problems permanently but to no prevail.

Initially, most of the times the battery will drain out quickly and when car gets hot, the car will go off on motion. But he has not noticed stalling off the car at idle.

At a point, is oil sump was broken. Consequently, the engine oil was replaced, top cylinder valves grinded, oil switch, plugs, coils, top gasket and PCM were replaced but the problem was still not fixed.

Moreover, it was also noticed that mostly the car will hesitate whenever it wants to climb hill like a popping sound accompanied with that and move very slowly on smooth road.

At present, the man said the car problem have gotten worse, it only cranks but doesn't start anymore.

In summary, the car used to drain very fast, struggle to climb a hill or bump, and when on motion engine stalls when hot.

Please help me out on how to solve the car problems and get the car starting.

Hi,

We have codes all over the place. LOL Is the primary concern that it stalls while driving? Also, does the battery drain quickly when the vehicle is warm? Have you checked alternator output? Low voltage can be causing all of these codes. (See below)

As far as the P0841, it isn't listed for this year, make, and model. The others were.

190 Fuel rail pressure sensor
798 Transmission pressure control solenoid
864 Transmission Control Module communication error (CAN)
2014 Intake Runner Control
113 Air Intake temperature sensor
2185 Coolant temperature sensor
841 Transmission fluid pressure sensor (Not Optional for this vehicle)

The first thing I would do is get a good battery, start the engine, and see if the alternator is producing when the engine is warm (or any time). These vehicles are very sensitive to voltage issues.

Let me know.

Joe

Thank you so much for this guide. I've just agreed to meet on Monday with the man so that I can hire a good battery to do the test. I will give you a feedback after my test.

Hi,

You are very welcome. I forgot to add a how-to for testing the alternator output. Here is a link that will walk you through the process.

All you will need is a voltmeter or a multimeter.

Let me know the results.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you so much sir for the video link guide. I have done that test now with the voltmeter and is giving me 12.94 that's a new battery voltage.
I have noticed here that the car is a cranking but won't start so that I can check that voltage at idle just as you indicated in the video.

What I have noticed in the car is that when I connected my scanner to it the codes I first saw were P0190, P025C, P0480, P0240, 0798, P0864 but when I disconnected and connected the battery; and scanned for error code the new codes that appeared were
P2014, P0113, P2185 and P0190.

I have also check for live data the car RPM is reading with cranking.

You were very right sir. So many codes popped up because car battery wasn't strong. But yesterday when I cleared the error codes and using a brand-new battery it was only four codes that appeared. P2014, P0113, P2185 and P0190. This codes still came back after clearing the error codes and reading for error codes again.
I told him that we're going to rent a battery for our test only to be surprised that he went and purchased a new car battery.
I noticed also that the doom light was left on. Maybe that was the contributing factor behind the problem of battery draining.

The car later started when I pulled out the spark plugs from all the cylinders and cranked the engine without plugs so that fuel from the cylinder should be removed.
After that I tightened back those plugs and did a clear flood.
At last, I cranked it and it started but died immediately.
The present problem of the car is that "it is not idling after starting."

Hi,

Okay, the codes indicate a few different things. First, the air intake temperature sensor signal voltage is off, second, the runner control motor is not working properly, and third, there is an issue with the fuel pressure sensor (sensor A). Note: The P2185 doesn't pertain to this vehicle. The code indicates an issue with the coolant temperature sensor, which can be causing issues with it flooding, but it isn't listed for this car.

Do me a favor. With your scan tool, check the engine coolant temp sensor (ECT) signal with live data. With the engine cold, it should be near the ambient temperature. Let me know what you find with that as well.

Since the vehicle is flooding, I feel the best thing to check first is the issue related to a possible fuel pressure issue.

Interestingly, the codes are voltage related. So, I have a feeling we have an issue with the connector at the PCM. Regardless, take a look through the pics below. You are checking for signal voltage to the pressure sensor and the sensor itself.

Let me know what you find or if I can help you in any way.

Take care,

Joe

Okay. Thank you so much sir for this information. I will check the live data as you've instructed. But please can you also include the locations for this?
Please tell me about the air intake temperature sensor signal voltage, the runner control motor, and the fuel pressure sensor (sensor A). Can you please also send me their locations and how to test them?
I will tell you what I noticed from the ECT live data test.

Hi,

I attached the diagnostics for the runner control, IAT, and pressure sensor. Let me know if this helps.

Also, let me know if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

First, I want to begin by thanking you for your generous efforts, how you tirelessly supported me. The guides were really beneficial to me.
However, when I started by checking the live data for the ECT, one of the testing procedures would've yielded better results.
I was surprised today when the car owner hindered me from carrying out other processes by saying that he wants to swap the car with a car dealer.
I felt really sad and frustrated though because I didn't understand the reason for that decision, but because I said I would send you feedback on my test that's why I didn't want to hesitate. I just want to say that I'm really sorry for the wasted time.
