Four cylinder automatic 80,000 miles.

My car doors are not locking, the switches do not work and while I am driving they are going up and down. When I bought the car I did not have a remote, I did not know if that was the problem.

The last issue, sometimes when I turn on my car, it feels like it does not want to start.

It has been reported that an issue exists that will cause the door locks to cycle when driving and/or become inoperative from the door lock switches. When the condition is present the door locks are inoperative from the switches, however they work normally with the key fobs. (If equipped with Remote key-less Entry). It is recommended that you connect the Tech-2 to the vehicle and look at the door lock switch status (RFA data-list) it should be reading "Idle". If it reads lock or unlock then check for a possible sticking door lock switch and replace as necessary.follow this first.

Thank you for replying. I am not really familiar with cars so I do not know what exactly the tech 2 is. I do not have a remote, so should I go buy one?

The tech 2 is a scan tool that is used at the GM dealer to scan for codes and see important data. You need the tech 2 to see which door lock switch is stuck. You do not have to buy a remote, the remote is not the problem. You might have to go to the dealer and have it diagnosed.

Hello,

I am having the same problem with my car door locks. I was just wondering if you got this fixed on your car? What did they say it was? Was it fixable? Expensive?

They said it was the door switch. I got it fixed at my dealer ship for about $100.00 labor and part.

Hey! I am having is not same issues with my doors except my car blinkers start flashing. Seems to have trouble shifting. Relays are clicking under my dash. Could this be connected to the car lock issue? It is sporadic. Does not happen every time I am in drive. I could drive it for several days no issue (tho the doors still will not lock alarm sets though), but then it will freak out again. Any ideas? I have checked my battery and alternator both read good. No codes currently though I did have a system too lean code around the time this started. I have changed the spark plugs, oil, and fuel filter as well.

Your problem sounds like it could be a big or little problem (great right?). The little problem would be like a loose or corroded battery terminal. For that fix. Here is a guide to help you:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/everything-goes-dead-when-engine-is-cranked

If that checks out the BCM controls the items you have mentioned which makes me think the BCM is going bad.

Here is its location (below) you will need a shop or dealer to program it for you.

Check out the diagrams (below).

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

My car started locking and unlocking the doors by itself. As you are driving or parked the doors keep locking and unlocking. What could be the reason?

Does all your door look buttons work in the car? Most likely caused by a faulty switch.

Neither of my door lock switches now work, which is strange. My remotes both say fob battery low but both batteries are new. Replaced both again and still says fob battery low on one remote. Voltage was 3.2 volts on the old batteries and 3.3 volts on the new ones. The security light is flashing on the dash.

Common problem with these Cobalt's. Likely a problem with the Body Control Module . What I suggest you do first is take the remotes more than 300 ft away from the car. See if the issue stops. If not then is the BCM.

My car did the same thing. It cost me about $350.00 to have the BCM replaced. Worth every penny not to have the locks freaking out.

My car just started unlocking its own doors. If I lock the doors and the doors unlock and then the locks continue to click like the locks are still trying to unlock themselves. If the car unlocks the doors on its own after I have locked them using the remote and I go to open the doors, the alarm goes off! I read a similar post from September but did not see an actual answer. Any information you can share will be greatly appreciated.

Could try this, Power Door Locks Cycling Or Inoperative From The Switches

Models: 2005-2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit

2007-2008 Pontiac G5 It has been reported that an issue exists that will cause the door locks to cycle when driving and/or become inoperative from the door lock switches. Probably a faulty body control module, a scan may show up a fault code.
