Jeep Grand Cherokee Ignition lock Problem

Why won't my jeep shift into reverse or park? If I push the shift stick up hard, holding it in place I can get it into reverse, but it is difficult. There is no way it will go into park.
I leave it in neutral and use the emergency brake.

it can be eitehr your shift interlock or the cable to shift. i'd bet on the cable being broken. Yu might have someting jamming the linkage as well. you'll have to check it by crawling under an dhaving an assistant help. if it seems to move ok an dcable or clip isn't broken then the sift interlock is ok.it can be a broken piece in shfter or at the ignition lock pics included.
