I have gotten a couple different answers on this question so sitting confused. I bought my pathfinder used in 2009 and have had almost no issues. The only thing I can't get resolved is how my 4-hi should shift back to 2 wheel drive. It seems that no matter how fast/slow steady etc. I am, my vehicle will not shift out of 4x4 unless I turn a corner or similar action. If its icy in town and want to head on the highway, I always have to find an approach pull in and turn around to go back in 2wd. Or pull into a parking lot and drive out again. The dealership mechanic told me it was how a 4x4 is suppose to work. I've driven lots of other 4x4s and they always have been able to shift on the fly going in a straight line down the road. I asked a co-worker who's an ex-GM mechanic and he said something was probably wrong with the vacuum setup. My extended warranty will soon run out so I want to resolve it if there is a problem.

Each vehicle is its own entry. Do not compare to other vehicles. Some make you back up to release it from 4 wheel.

As far as your car, have you serviced the system regularly? Clean and pack wheel bearings? This system requires regular maintenance.

It has been given the regular maintenance schedule as per recommended at each interval. I have driven a Titan that shifted on the fly so I guess I assumed that they would have had a similar standard how they wanted to operate. Makes sense though that they would be different as they are designed with different uses in mind. Thank you!
