The seller say it sounds like a bad piston but the engine rides smooth and there is no smoke from the exhaust. Could it be the piston and is this a expensive fix?

This just my opinion, but, buyer be careful, internal engine work can get expensive in a hurry. Sometimes it's cheaper to get another engine? Any internal engine problems, I'd pass it by, again, just my opinion.

If the buyer will let you, take it to a local mechanic that you trust, let the mechanic give it the once-over. Ask him for his opinion.

Any high mileage engine worries me. Especially internal engine noises, it depends on what is causing the problem? I would definitely want to look at the vehicle. I know that isn't the answer you wanted. I would want to check cylinder compression, I'd want to check oil pressure. I'd want to look at the lifters.

I won't recommend anything without looking at, even then, you can never be positive.

I have a 2005 nissan maxima when its in drive it shake a little and then it stops when I put it in neutral. It was taking off slowly I was told its was the ignition coils that needed to be changed I got 2 changed out and a tune up done and now a month later its doing the same. What could this possibly be

Did you visually check for spark at the spark plugs, strong spark everywhere. If you change out the coil, I'd also change out the plugs and plug wires, where applicable.

There is not much load on the engine in neutral, more load in gear. I'd also want to see if system is running rich or lean when issue is ongoing. Any applicable trouble codes, some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.

As far as the radio, I'd have to check voltage at applicable fuses when the problem is ongoing.

As far as the engine, I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure. Plus, see if there are any applicable trouble codes.

The car was running real smooth and the check engine finally went off yesterday when the pipes were changed. Now its back to driving rough and a little shaking again the check engine light will flash and then go off and then stay on. At auto zone the trouble shooting code came up as P0300 random cylinder misfire detected
Probable cause: ignition system fault, fuel system fault, large vacuum leak, MAF sensor fault, AF/HO2S (air/fuel)/ heated oxygen sensor
This is what my receipt says from the computer

The basics for idle issues is to check for a leak of some kind? Fuel leak--egr leak--vacuum leak, something of that nature.
