Check your speed senor first and scan for codes as it may show up on that. If a pro type scanner is used then it may show a code for the cluster if it's bad.

I replaced my VSS but the speedometer is still off. Sometimes it will reset back to zero and then gradually as the days go on it works its way up higher and higher. I’m assuming it’s a bad cluster?

Hi Krystal,

Here is how the speedometer works. Please see the attached document. I doubt it is a cluster itself because it just displays what the ECM is telling it to do.

The way to test this is to hook up a scan tool and drive the vehicle and monitor what the ECM is seeing for the speed. If the ECM is getting good info then there is a wiring issue between the cluster and ECM. However, I suspect there is another issue that may have a code which you will find with a scan tool as well.

However, all this is assuming you have a 2005 Buick Rendezvous. I would suggest you post a new thread with your specific vehicle and engine. Then let us know if you have any codes and we can go from there. If you can't pull codes, most parts stores can pull them for you.

Thanks
