Chech engine light was on for 2 days problem code fuel tank sensor. on the check engin light is off. what does this mean?

There could be a wiring issue, or the sensor itself could be in the process of going bad. If the light comes back on, then check wiring to the sensor and check for issues with the sensor itself.
