The heater blows out cold air. I can start the car and drive for about 8 to 10 minutes. The temperature then spikes way up to the red and the warning light comes on. Once the warning light came on I immediately turned the car off and I havent attempted to start or drive it again. I havent noticed any leaks or abnormal sounds. Just looking for suggestions as to what the problem may be. Thanks

Have you checked to make sure the coolant is full?

Yes I added coolant thinking that would resolve the issue but that didn't help.

Could be the thermostat is stuck closed. That would make the engine run hot and no heat.

If the thermostat was stuck shut it should still have heat most cars have a heater bypass hose for the heater core.
