Can I remove the alternator just by removing the air intake manifold and radiator hoses? I read that some have removed engine mounts to replace the alternator.

Thanks.

I checked directions. There is nothing that indicates a need for engine mount removal. It sounds like a straight forward job. It will be tight to work on, but nothing is listed that needs removed other than disconnect the battery, the serp belt, and the wiring.

1. Remove coolant reservoir.
2. Rotate tensioner clockwise with a 15 mm wrench and slide belt from generator pulley. Release tensioner and remove belt.
3. Reverse procedure to install, routing belt as shown in Fig. 22.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

To avoid injuring yourself when rotating the serpentine belt tensioner, use a tight fitting 13mm drive tool that is at least 24 in. (61cm) long. Thie can be done using tool J 37059 or equivalent.

2. Remove the serpentine belt.

3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

4. Unfasten and remove the lower alternator mounting bolts.

5. Carefully lower the vehicle.

6. Remove the upper alternator bolt, detach the electrical connectors, then remove the alternator from the vehicle.

To install:

7. Position the alternator in the vehicle.

8. Attach the alternator electrical connections. Tighten the BAT terminal nut to 65 inch lbs. (7.5 Nm).

9. Install the upper alternator retaining bolt.

10. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

11. Secure the lower alternator mounting bolts, then carefully lower the vehicle.

12. Install the serpentine belt.

13. Connect the negative battery cable.
