I'm currently going to college persuing my dream to be an automotive technician. I have started buying tools and I would like to know what tools a real mechanic needs, Im sure there is a long list to my question, but I really don't wanna buy tools that Im not going to be using. I also would like to know what is a good brand for tools.
Do you

As a starting tech, I would go to Sears and get a craftsman set of tools. Good brand, lifetime warranty and there tool sets are complete for starting out. There boxes are very good. I suggest buying a box that is larger than your set as you will be adding a lot over time as you enter the field and buy additional tools required for you to make money.

Good luck to you. I wish you the best in your career.

Just to add to this one unless your working on pre 1980 american cars then you should get metric wrenches sockets 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" drive ones deep and shallow ones also I would add wobble sockets later those can get expensive. Also ratchets to go with those sockets and extensions.I would get impact sockets since you will be using air tools a lot. Also a 3/8" and 1/2" impact gun and 1/4" and 3/8" drive air ratchets.I recomend ingersol rand ones dont buy the cheaper ingersol rand ones though. Also a power probe 3 test light and a multimeter. Iam sure I forgot a few things like hammers dead blow hammers pry bars etc.
