Pontiac Grand Prix Steering Problem

When replaceing the rack and pinon unit is this really a project for the real mec;? I do have a nice shop to work out of, and will have most tools needed.
If this is a dum question sorry.

The only parts that are hard are that you usually have to drop the front sub-frame in the rear a little bit. It can also be tough to get the sleeve of the steering spindle on the steering box. Soak everything overnight in PB Blaster or WD 40 so removing and breaking hardware is not an issue. It is an awkaward job, but if you have good lighting and tall enough jack stands to put under the car , it is not too tough.
