Hello,
I have a 2002 Taurus 3.0L with 120,000 miles, I now I use it as a back up car; There is a noise coming from the engine compartment which sounds like a hampster wheel going around and around. I remember it happened before but way back when the car was under warranty, so I didn't ask questions, I just had it replaced. I use the car about 50 miles a week on average (10 miles a day), sometimes I drive it 40 miles to airport and park it for a few days. Do you know what it is? The noise is annoying but is a prelude to a breakdown?
Thanks,
Carl

It sounds like a bearing issue on one of the belt driven accessories. It could be any of them. You need to remove the serp belt and check each accessory to see where the noise is coming from.
