2002 cadillac escalade abs light is on and I realize that the back brakes lock up. It feels that the front brakes are not working.

You can repair any obvious brake problems but you are going to have to get the ABS module scanned to determine what fault put it on.

Thank you, upon checking the brake system, there is no obvious brake problems with the brakes. If the ABS module is scanned will it show it is defective. A mechanic, who checked it out, told me that the "ABS pump" is the problem. I don't want to remove and replace parts to try and fix it and get to the right part first time. Any other suggestions or ways to narrow the part problem

The ABS light being on indicates that the system has detected a malfunction and stored a code to identify it. That's where everything has to start.

Don't waste your time at the free parts stores. This is going to require a professional scan tool to access these codes.
