You need a code reader ($89 or so). That's always a good start.

The machine will even tell you what the codes are.

Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 142, 00 miles

My Eclipse started having an issue when run for a while and shut off. When I try to start it after sitting for approximately 5-10 minutes it will start and run for a few seconds and then dies. Pumping the gas as it is dying it kind of fires a few times but does die. If the vehicle sits for a while it will then start and runs fine. But, shut if off for those 5-10 minutes and it won't start. Need to wait for about an hour and it starts fine again.

Hi bandit1i,

Looks like some electrical contact somewhere is not good and heating up causes the engnine to stall and unable to start.

Check if it is the fuel or ignition sparking electricals that are not functioning properly when it can't start.

Hello, BEAU

It sounds like the camshaft sensor has gone bad, though that should not make it not run, does the engine sounds normal when it cranks over? You may need to new timing belt, please get back to me you want you find.

Best, Ken

Now camshaft pulley are off one tooth on one side and one-and-a-half teeth on the other.

I went to get in my Mitsubishi Eclipse and the keyless remote would not work. I used the key to open the car door (which usually sets off the alarm, but the alarm did not go off) and when I tried to start the car there was no clicking noise, no power, nothing. Everything about the car was completely dead. I have a 2-month old battery in my car as well. After about 30 minutes I tried again, and my car worked fine. The keyless entry, everything, as if nothing had happened. It has been working fine for the past 2 days but there has to be something wrong, I do not feel at ease driving the car around. Any help?

I would go get a scan and see if there is a set fault code, not all codes will set a check light.

I stupidly left the sun roof of my mistubishi eclipse open over night, and of course there was a rain storm so now the car wont start.

When I first got in, the interior was pretty soaked. The floor, center console and seats. When I tried to start my car, it worked, but as I was backing out, she died out. Now she will turn but not crank. I tried jumpstarting it but to no avail. Now I can't get it into neutral with the stick shift, so it's stuck, half way pulled out of a parking spot in my apartment complex.

Any idea what the issue is and what to do to fix it just to get it running again? I am a broke college student, so the most economic route would be best.

Scan for codes first and check battery for condition including load test most auto parts stores can do this.
