CHEVROLET CAMARO FUEL PRESSURE PROBLEM
2001 Chevrolet Camaro • 6 cylinder 2WD Automatic • 103,000 miles
I have a 2001 chevy camaro my problem is that I start the car up and it starts up really good but in about 10 to 20 seconds it shuts off I try holding an idle at 3000 rpms but it still does the same thing I check the fuel pump but its working fine do you know what could be the problem?
So did you actually test to see what your fuel pressure was with a gauge? If not you need to do that to be sure you have good fuel pressure. Also is your security light on solid or flashing when it just run's for a few second's?Also have you checked for code's if you haven't yet can you please do that.If you have any code's please let me know the exact code number's.
The security light been on for the past 8 months and the car still turns on really good for the 8 months its been on can their be something else causing it to do that can it be a clog up fuel filter that needs to be replace?
There are a lot of things that can be causing it a clogged filter iam not sure if that would be causing it.It would have to be really clogged you could remove it and see how restricted it is.Also you never told me if you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge? Also if you checked for code's that could lead us to the problem as well.Have you checked for injector pulse?
To check the fuel presurre do I use a tire gage and put it on the part that looks like a tire stem that is near the engine?
No you will have to rent a fuel pressure gauge they rent them at auto zone for free with a deposit. You are right about where to hook it up though it screws onto that threaded nipple that goes up to the injector rail. Then you will turn the key to the run position let it sit there like 5 second's and see what the reading is.See if they have a injector noid light you can rent also that plugs into the injector harness instead of the injector then you crank the engine and watch for the light to flash not stay on solid. You will check all injector harnesses with it.Also see if they will rent you a code reader so you can check for code's.Let me know what you find.
Ok ill let you know either today or tomorrow and see what happens thank you again for the info oh and by the way one more little question what should I be looking for in the reading of the fuel pressure gauge? And about the code reader ill let you know what it also tells me.
With the fuel pressure gauge your looking for a fuel pressure reading let me know what that fuel pressure reading is and any code number's you get.
Ok ill try to let you know today I am at work but as soon as I get out I am going to go rent the stuyff you told me too get ill try to let you know today or tomorrow morning I am of from work tomorrow Friday. Thank you again.
Your welcome keep me posted so we can figure this out.
