Emissions diagnostics
I just purchased a 2000 Camry from a local dealer. The check engine light came on 2 days later. I diagnostics test has confirmed this is an emissions problem. A catalytic converter is probably needed.
Prior to the purchase I asked the salesman if they were aware of any maintenance problems but he stated no. Is it safe to assume the dealer would run a diagnostics test as part of their standard process. Wouldn't they be aware of the pending problem?
Have I been taken by a used car salesman?

It all depends on what there reconditioning process for used used cars is?They all have there own processes.Do you have smog checks where you live?

Yes, we have smog tests. It also looks like they replaced the battery so I am thinking that re-set the diagnostics. We drove it for less than 100 miles before the check engine light came on.
