2000 Ford Focus Repair Question

Topics covered: Idle air control valve.
Mileage: 83,000 miles.

Asked on June 4, 2012

Why does my car almost die while idling with the AC on? The AC stopped working as well when this started.

At the same time I noticed the idling problem, I noticed that my AC was not blowing as cold as it used to. The idle will start normal for a few seconds, then rev up for a second or two then almost die and then rinse and repeat.

Clean the idle air control valve and see what happens and also check AC high and low pressures

Check to see if the A/C compressor is cycling on and off when this is happening. It may be low on refrigerant, causing short cycling.
