Ford excursion

I have a 2000 ford excursion that starts just fine but will not stay running unless I keep my foot on the accelerator. It seems like it is not getting enough air or fuel. It started doing this infrequently about 4 months ago but would work itself out after I drove for awhile. Now it will not work itself out.
