1999 Chrysler LHS Repair Question

Chrysler LHS Engine Problem

I have a 1999 chrysler LHS 3.5 6 cyl that has been sitting for a while the mechanic put another engine in it claimed the the rebuilt was to complecated and told me that the engine control module needed to be program.So my primary question is can i attemp to start the car or atleast to see in what condition its in without causing any damage to it or the engine control module?

why did he tell you it needed a computer??? what was the original issue???? does not sound right

Thank you for your response.
the original issue was that i got a use ingine put in it because the mechanic said that type of ingine was to complicated to rebuild for some reason now the new engine is not compatible with the used engine i must programe the engin control module
