1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Repair Question

Mitsubishi Eclipse Noise Problem
The fan blower starting making a clicking noise, I was wondering, if a piece of debris had fallen through defrost outlet, would this be why it is making the noise, and if so, how do you check it?

common for leaves to make there way into the system..
otherwise the cage assembly may be breaking up requiring replacement
remove the blower and turn it on and see what happens
