I have a few problem areas with my truck and would love to know if these need to be fixed now or will it hold in there a bit. I have a chevorlet s10 1998 sport pickup truck with a 2.2 liter automatic. Has 156,000 miles bought from a small dealership, and had a tune up done when I first got it oil, plugs, wires, lights, refrigerant the works and its about 4,000 miles away from the oil change mileage. So I have a few problem areas here first off I have a lot of oil leaking. Its around the top of the motor, and all over the exhaust headers I don't know where its coming from can you hint me on what I should look for or do to find the problem?

Secondly I have a tapping noise from in the motor I do not think it is a rod because it does not speed up when the motor is reved up, and it goes away after a minute or two of cranking it up. I am not sure about it. Also, when I am driving I have a rude popping, clicking noise from around the front driver wheel. I had new brakes put on but it was 1996 model brakes they fit, and work good so don't think that's the problem, and when I turn the wheel it's like my front driver tire kinda leans out more than it is suppose to. Like the positive traction is messing up making it scary to drive to work and back. I took the tire off and shook the rotor it had a slight movement so I thought wheel bearings ok,

But why would my tire lean out like that? I dont know if the popping noise could be from the brakes or the bearings, but it seems to be getting worse every time I drive it. I would get out there and see but I do not want to mess it up more than it already is. I would take all the information about these problems as possible so I can maybe just buy the parts, and fix it outside rather than a mechanic do it and pay him for fixing something I would love to fix, and so I know what to do next time these problems occur.

No offence to the mechanics they do good work but I like to have hands on work with what I drive around everyday. If you can give any information on how to fix, troubleshoot and locate these problems I would really appreciate it , THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

YOU KINDA HAVE THROWED A LOT OUT THERE!

I'LL TRY TO HELP YOU WITH WHAT I CAN, IF NO ONE ELSE JUMPS IN TO AID WITH THE REST, YOU CAN ALWAYS RE-POST YOUR QUESTION WITH WHAT REMAINS

1) OIL LEAK--MOST LIKELY VALVE COVER---YOU CAN SPRAY THE ENGINE WITH "PURPLE POWER" LET IT SIT 5 MINUTES THEN RINSE IT OFF GOOD, TRY NOT TO GET IT ON YOUR PAINT---I ALWAYS RINSE MY EXTERIOR BODY WELL, WHEN I CLEAN MY ENGINE

THIS MIGHT AID IN FINDING THE EXACT ORIGIN OF THE LEAK

THIS IS HOW I STARTED---AND STILL SWEAR BY IT---THEY DON'T LET YOU FORGET NUTHIN'

2) TAPPING? SINCE YOU SAID THIS DOES NOT CHANGE SPEED WITH ENGINE RPM SPEED, IT'S HARD TO SAY ('SPECIALLY SINCE I DON'T KNOW SPECIFICS OF YOUR TRUCK. IMMA JEEP CJ GUY FOR THE MOST PART)

MAYBE YOU CAN PIN-DOWN THE LOCATION OF THE SOUND, YOU CAN SOMETIMES HEAR STUFF BETTER WITH A 3-4 FOOT LONG PIECE HEATER HOSE/ GARDEN HOSE CRAMMED IN YOU EAR, THE OTHER END USED LIKE A STETHOSCOPE. IF YOU WERE WRONG ABOUT THE SPEED OF THE TAPPING WITH RPM CHANGES, LET ME KNOW. MIGHT GIVE YOU OTHER INFO COULD HELP

3) POPPING AND CLICKING---TOUGH ONE TOO. HOWEVER YOU DID CONTINUE WITH THE WHEEL LEANING, THIS COULD ALL BE RELATED. THIS MAY BE A SUSPENSION OR STEERING PROBLEM. THIS IS NOTHING TO "PLAY AROUND W1TH"! THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS, AND A 1ST TIME DIYer IS NOT THE ANSWER TO GET IT REPAIRED!

THIS MAY BE BAD BALL JOINTS, BENT OR BROKEN STUFF, OR LIKE YOU SAID "BEARINGS".A VERY REPUTABLE ALIGNMENT SHOP WILL PROBABLY DIAGNOSE/ FIND YOUR PROBLEMS AND GIVE YOU AN ESTIMATE FOR FREE (CALL AROUND TO SEVERAL TIRE STORES AND SEE IF "A NAME" COMES UP FOR BEING VERY REPUTABLE) I, MYSELF, DON'T "CHEAP OUT" WHEN IT COMES TO THIS SUPER IMPORTANT VEHICLE MAINTENANCE. I'VE SEEN TOO MANY "INEXPERIENCED" OR "KIDS" SCREW UP ON PROPER ALIGNING, I HAVE A GOOD PLACE HERE THAT DOES BIG TRUCK MAINLY, THEY REALLY KNOW THEIR GEOMETRY

DO. DIY ALL YOU CAN, AS YOU GET BETTER, YOU WILL SAVE MORE.

THE MANUALS ARE MY #1 GUIDE."HOW TO" ON "YOU TUBE" SOMETIMES GIVES ME A "PEEK" OF THE PROCEDURES.I ALWAYS ABIDE BY THE BOOK FOR STEPS, CAUTIONS, TORQUE SPECS, ETC

WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR FINDINGS, YOU CAN POST PICS FOR US

YOUR TURN
