1998 Cadillac Catera engine problem

1998 catera put head gaskets and having problems with camshaft sprockets 1, 2, 3, 4 they fit any direction 180 I know enough not to bend valves timing marks are in place, but won't start I want to know if sprockets have to be put a specific way on can pins. Thank you.

The diagrams do not show how to line the marks up on the cams correctly. The cams from left to right (facing the car) are 1, 2, 3, and 4. There are two numbers on each cam. Also there are two notches on each cam. To line the notches up to the backing plate you have to know which one to line up with. Example: cam #1 will have the numbers 1 & 2 on it, so you line up with the notch that is closest to number 1 and so on.
