Ford Escort Engine Problem

I have a 1997 ford escort 2.0 engine and the engine died on me. Can I replace it with a 1.9 engine that was on a 1995 for escort without having any problems and will it have future issues with passing the smog and not have any electrical problems?

Even if the blocks are the same you will run into issues with the computer. You would have to change that as well as the engine harness to be sure it ran right. Then you have to worry about the motor mounts lining up. It is best to get the same engine if you want to have a straght forward swap.
