I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer. 4 wheel drive, automatic. When I start my car the engine revvs without me applying the gas. Then after revving for a long time it will stall, and it isn't a stick shift. What could be the problem?

Take the throttle-body off and clean it, check the iac. Check applicable trouble codes. Also, take air-duct loose from throttle body, block the mouth of the throttle-body with something, is there any effect on idle rpms? What about cruise control?
