My husband was driving. The oil pressure gauge dropped (small red indicator light came on) and the car shut off. It would not restart. When I checked the oil it was a quart low added oil still no restart. When trying to crank oil pressure is still in the red then jumps up to about 20 then back to red. Fuel pump was replaced in October, brand new battery and minor oil pan gasket leak. Thinking it is the oil pump but would like a second opinion please. Do they offer a new pump or just a rebuild kit? Should I change the timing chain and gears while I have it apart?

Oil pumps are normally sold as new normally the timing chain cover wears out from the steel gears hitting it. You can change the timing chain if you want it's kindof a judgment call but easier to do while it's there. There is a kit to make the system better but I doubt you want to put the money into it with mileage on it.

Check it with a manual pressure gauge first however it may be just the switch.
