Check oil light keeps coming on but there is plenty of oil in the engine-what could be causing this?

Pressure is low, not level. Low pressure will lead to serious, expensive engine damage, (that's why there's a warning light), but it is just as likely just the sending unit for the light is defective. Your mechanic will install a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see if it is really low. If it is not, you just need a new sending unit.
