1996 chevy tahoe had no previous shifting problems. Yesterday it drove fine. This morning it fights to shift, I have to let off the gas in order for it to shift. My rpms skyrocket before shifting gears, what could be causing this with no previous issues?

Sounds like the tranny is slipping-you got a lot of mileage-try checking the tranny fluid and condition if okay-bring it in and have it further checked-

Transmission fluid looks fine and it is within operating levels. Light red clear, no visible particles.

I topped off the transmission fluid this morning and it will drive fine in 2. It seems that only 3rd gear is slipping, It won't engage in 3. And in overdrive starts to slip around 45 and rmps go way up. Could this be the vss? The speedometer seems to be accurate so possibly pcm?
