Volkswagen Passat Engine Problem

While driving my car home out of nowhere the car died...tge dashboard lit up like an xmas tree and lost power... i went to start it vack up and it would crank but wouldnt turn over... towed it home. Havent tried to fix it but today went to go charge the battery and noticed that a hose from the air filter was broker in half... could that have been the reason it died in the first place?

What size engine?

Which hose? Can you post a picture?

Probably no due to the hose... you would have had rough running or at least lack of power.

BTW, Cranking = turning over.

If you have a scan tool, check for fault codes.

It could be a Crankshaft Position Sensor problem.

Other possibility is ECM relay or fuel pump relay.

Is it the little hose that goes to the Valve / Engine Cover?

No timing belt.... the chain usually makes noise before letting go.
