Volkswagen Golf Starter Problem

What is the problem when u try to start the engine and stater makes noise not turning the flywheel.

You need a new starter... or get your starter re-built (overhauled).

Sounds like a bad solenoid. Remove the starter and bench test it to see if the gear kicks out when it spins.
