Transmission whine and slack of power

Gears 1-od: trans makes a whining sound and has a major loss of power
fluid does not smell burnt but is bubbly on dip stick need help I did ngk plugs and fresh oil. Pls help

It almost sounds like it may be a problem with the converter. I would have that checked first. Also, if any warning lights have come on, have the computer scanned to identify if there are trouble codes related to the transmission.
