I need to figure out why my car won't shift and it cuts off at a certain Speed and RPM's

A week ago. I started the car and headed to work like normal. Then my car went to shift to 3rd gear and it sounded like it kicked out of gear and just revved up. Then I took over drive off and it shifts into 3rd gear but still cuts off at a certain speed. And kick out. My dad thinks its the torque converter. I don't have a clue and it also has a shift kit. That I disconnected

Have a trans guy run a scan on it you mayhave a bad seal or clutch pak in trans.
