Water pump rapair

I changed the water pump on my 1993 mazda mx3 and partialy removed the timing belt but did not take it of, and now my car just sputers but it wont turn on can u help?

Make sure you did not inadvertently, unplug the crank sensor or cam sensor. Retrace your steps, and you may also need to reset your timing

Your water pump was located inside the timing chain cover?
