Car will not shift past 3rd and now it won't start. Fluid is full and clear. Car has had an overheating problem. Radiator has been replaced. Thermostat replaced.

First thing is to make sure your battery is in good shape. then you will have to check your fuses in your underhold box. i'm sending a diagram and you will have to check from point a to bon everything it may be your neutral safety switch, as far as the d4 light you'll have to get that checked at a trans shop as auto parts stores can only check engine codes. These guides will help us fix it.

Please run down these guides and report back.

If you have a security system check that then check items in picture. Finally have battery checked for condition including load test. Most places check for free.

Try shifting to N and see if it works.
Ensure the security system is not activated.
Check the starter motor, give it some knock to see if it works.
Is there any clicking noise when trying to crank the engine?

Disconnect the starter solenoid wire and use a remote wire to apply battery voltage to the solenoid. If starter does nor click or crank, the starter is bad.

Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Honda Accord 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

my muffler came off about 2 weeks ago, and now my car won't start, it won't even turn over. I was told that I would be okay until I could afford to get it fixed, could this be the problem or is it something else?

Could be a bad starter/solenoid. Check for 12 volts at the small wire on the starter with key in crank position. If it has power then the starter needs to be replaced. If none, then get back to me and we will figure out where it stops

Checked out okay, and the alternator did. Battery is at 12 when checked. My car won't even turn over. Seems like something dealing with the battery, because its getting no power.

If you have 12 volts at the small wire on the starter with key in crank position, and 12 volts at the main cable at the starter, then the starter is most likely bad

I have a 92 Honda Accord LX that has strange symptoms. I parked it in my carport recently and the next morning tried to start it and the engine light came on (steady) and the (D)rive light on the shift console was blinking. It cranked, but did not start. The battery is only about 2 months old and still feeds the electronics such as the radio and blinkers and headlights.

I'm a senior living on just social security and need to know if this might be an 'easy' repair, or might be major. I will have to have it towed, and that is expensive in itself. Would applying a rubber mallet help?

Is the starter working? Also, if the check engine light came on, that means there will be a trouble code storred in the computer that should help identify the problem. Most parts stores will scan them for free, but since the car won't start, you cant get it to them. What I recommend is to call around to the local nationally recognized parts stores and ask if they will lend or rent a scanner for you to use. They just plug in (I believe under the dash on your year) and then check the computer for codes and tell you what the problem is.

Let me know about the starter, if it's working. If it is, then we can try some other things.

Joe

They'd have to supply a tech, too. I'm a disabled senior living alone on SS. As to the starter, if you mean does it crank, yes. And the battery is new and sound. Just no response from the rest of the car. Since I still haven't finished paying for the new distributor, I need to decide to save to fix it, or find a rocket launcher to put it out of it's (and my) misery.

I have a 1993 Accord EX doing the exact same thing. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect, the car should start. You need to check the ground cable on the battery and the frame and engine for starters. The second thing is the ECM is going or is already bad. ECM is your onboard computer.

My 1992 Honda Accord EX sometimes will not start. The D4 light starts blinking. After about 20 minutes or so the car will start. This just randomly happens. It does not matter if I have drove the car alot or not at all. I am trying to figure out what is causing this issue.
