When I apply brakes on an uneven road surface (like road patches or grated surfaces) I get a violent shaking that seems to start from the back and intensify even if I release the brake petal. If I apply brakes on a well maintained road I get no shake. The brakes have all been inspected and cleaned to no avail. Any ideas what is causing this will be appreciated as it makes driving this vehicle very dangerous.

Where do you feel the shaking the most, the steering or the seat/floor? Have all steering components been checked?

I feel it on the floor starting in the back and intensifying as it moves forward.

Have you checked axle bearings? Also, are the rear shocks good? This is truly an odd problem if it only happens on rough roads. Also, let me know if you checked the universal joints on the drive shaft.

Rear shocks are newer, have not checked bearings but have no leakage from either wheel. Can leaf springs do it?

I have had no clunking noises from my u joints at all, and yes this is baffling me as it is only on grooved or uneven road surfaces.
