Wont stay running unless I keep my foot on the gas

My Camaro I have changed the fuel filter. The problem started after I ran out of gas. It will idle after awhile of keeping my foot on the gas but it will go dead when I put it in drive or reverse.

Clean out the idle air control valve and see what happens

Check the fuel pressure also. Its common in 3rd Gens for the fuel pump to go out at that age if its the original.
